A Pea story
This Thanksgiving, I’m
thankful for a single pea.
As she approaches the castle and feeling confident about the
task she was set out to do, a guard welcomes her, asking her business in the castle.
“I’m here to marry the prince, the fairies send me.” She replies.
Surprised of this sparky answer the maiden has, he opens the
gates to the castle, giving her direction before sending her on her way.
She approaches the next door, leading into the wing, just steps
away from king and queen .Yet this too was guarded.
“What is your business with the King and Queen” the guard
asks.
“I’m here to ask to marry the prince. The fairies send me”
she replies with a twinkle in her eyes.
The guard, delightfully surprise about the response, opens
the large wooden doors to the Great Hall, announcing her arrival for King and
Queen.
They welcome the young lady, telling her they have been informed
of her passage, hearing a great deal about her presence and pleased to make her
acquaintance.
After addressing that the prince had been out with his hunts
men, the queen advises the maiden to rest
until the rising of the sun, when the King and Queen will announce her
engagement.
The royal servants, 6 in total, quickly surround the young
girl and show her to her sleeping chambers. They bath and
dress her for her nights rest, then help her on top of her bed that consist
of a dozen mattresses stacked one on another.
“Here you shall rest like and infant until you wake.” She expressed with a smile, before her
departure.
The next
day, with the rising of the sun, the maiden was picked up by the Queen herself,
asking the key question of how she had slept.
“I slept horribly! As if every mattress had been made of
iron plates!” she replied while controlling her urge of a yawn.
Overwhelmed with happiness, the queen embraces the maiden
and states, “Then the time has come for you to meet your future husband!”
And so this story comes to a happy end, where due to the
pea, and the sensibility of the fairy sent maiden, the prince is wed and they
live happily ever after.
